57 AN ACT
68 relating to requiring the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
79 to waive fees for admission applications submitted to public
810 institutions of higher education during certain periods.
911 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1012 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 61, Education Code, is
1113 amended by adding Section 61.0731 to read as follows:
1214 Sec. 61.0731. WAIVER OF CERTAIN APPLICATION FEES; FREE
1315 COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK. (a) The board shall designate the second
1416 full week of October as Free College Application Week. During the
1517 designated week, the board shall permit individuals in this state
1618 to apply to any institution of higher education for undergraduate
1719 admission without paying an application fee.
1820 (b) The board may adopt rules as necessary to implement
1921 Subsection (a).
2022 SECTION 2. Section 61.0731, Education Code, as added by
2123 this Act, applies beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year.
2224 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2325 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2426 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2527 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2628 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
