46 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
57 AN ACT
68 relating to the reporting of the Joint Admission Medical Program.
79 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
810 SECTION 1. Subchapter V, Chapter 51, Education Code, is
911 amended by amending Section 51.834 to read as follows:
1012 Sec. 51.834. REPORT. (a) The council shall deliver a
1113 report on the program to the governor, the lieutenant governor, and
1214 the speaker of the house of representatives not later than December
1315 31 of each even-numbered year.
1416 (b) The report must contain detailed information regarding:
1517 (1) any problems the council identifies in
1618 implementing the program, with recommended solutions for those
1719 problems;
1820 (2) the expenditure of any money received under this
1921 subchapter, including legislative appropriations; [and]
2022 (3) the number of students who are admitted to the
2123 program and who are enrolled in each year of a baccalaureate,
2224 graduate, or professional degree program offered by a general
2325 academic teaching institution, a private or independent
2426 institution of higher education, or a participating medical school,
2527 as applicable; [.]
2628 (4) the number of students who are dismissed,
2729 terminated, placed on probation, or otherwise withdrawn from the
2830 program by the council or voluntary decision who were enrolled in
2931 each year of a baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degree
3032 program offered by a general academic teaching institution, a
3133 private or independent institution of higher education, or a
3234 participating medical school, as applicable; and
3335 (5) expenditure for graduate scholarships awarded to
3436 participating medical students; including the amount per student
3537 and any need to maintain the ending balance in lieu of reallocation
3638 to medical school scholarship recipients.
3739 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3840 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3941 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4042 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4143 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
