By: Wilson H.B. No. 5154 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT relating to the reporting of the Joint Admission Medical Program. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter V, Chapter 51, Education Code, is amended by amending Section 51.834 to read as follows: Sec. 51.834. REPORT. (a) The council shall deliver a report on the program to the governor, the lieutenant governor, and the speaker of the house of representatives not later than December 31 of each even-numbered year. (b) The report must contain detailed information regarding: (1) any problems the council identifies in implementing the program, with recommended solutions for those problems; (2) the expenditure of any money received under this subchapter, including legislative appropriations; [and] (3) the number of students who are admitted to the program and who are enrolled in each year of a baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degree program offered by a general academic teaching institution, a private or independent institution of higher education, or a participating medical school, as applicable; [.] (4) the number of students who are dismissed, terminated, placed on probation, or otherwise withdrawn from the program by the council or voluntary decision who were enrolled in each year of a baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degree program offered by a general academic teaching institution, a private or independent institution of higher education, or a participating medical school, as applicable; and (5) expenditure for graduate scholarships awarded to participating medical students; including the amount per student and any need to maintain the ending balance in lieu of reallocation to medical school scholarship recipients. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
