57 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
68 WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump has declared that it is in
79 the national interest to promote America's affordable and reliable
810 energy resources to restore American prosperity; and
911 WHEREAS, Texas is a national leader in electricity
1012 production, producing more electricity than any other state, nearly
1113 twice as much as the second highest-producing state; and
1214 WHEREAS, Texas continues to lead the nation in economic
1315 development and electricity load growth; and
1416 WHEREAS, Natural gas and nuclear generation plants create
1517 reliable and affordable electricity for Texas families and
1618 businesses and provide nearly half of Texas' electricity generation
1719 overall; and
1820 WHEREAS, These reliable and affordable electricity supplies
1921 improve the quality of life for Texas families and are critical to
2022 making Texas the best state in America to locate businesses; and
2123 WHEREAS, The natural gas and nuclear generation plants
2224 directly employed 12,242 people in the state in 2024; and
2325 WHEREAS, The oil and gas industry in the state employed more
2426 than 492,000 Texans in 2024; and
2527 WHEREAS, Texas must preserve its existing nuclear and gas
2628 fleet and support the expansion of gas and nuclear in the state,
2729 including the development of new nuclear reactors; and
2830 WHEREAS, These goals are supported by Sections 45U, 45Y, and
2931 48E of the Internal Revenue Code, which provide federal tax support
3032 for new and existing nuclear technologies; now, therefore, be it
3133 RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
3234 hereby respectfully urge the Congress of the United States to
3335 preserve Sections 45U, 45Y, and 48E of the Internal Revenue Code to
3436 support the preservation and expansion of America's nuclear fleet;
3537 and, be it further
3638 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
3739 copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to
3840 the president of the Senate and the speaker of the House of
3941 Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the
4042 members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that
4143 this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a
4244 memorial to the Congress of the United States of America.
