| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Texans of all ages benefit from the work of |

| 9 | 9 | | counseling professionals, and the designation of April as |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Counseling Awareness Month serves as a fitting means to honor those |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | who dedicate themselves to this important calling; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Professional counselors provide a wide range of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | services to help people overcome mental health challenges and live |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | healthier and more productive lives; they currently make up the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | largest group of mental health providers in the state, with more |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | than 13,000 Certified School Counselors and 34,000 Licensed |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Professional Counselors and LPC Associates; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Individuals can access professional counseling |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | services through educational institutions, mental health agencies, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | community organizations, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | private practices, and other settings; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, By empowering people to address their |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | social-emotional needs and achieve their goals, professional |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | counselors play a vital role in strengthening our communities, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the official designation of Counseling Awareness Month helps to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | promote a better understanding of their essential contributions; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | hereby designate April as Counseling Awareness Month; and, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | passed by the legislature. |
