| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, National Tennis Month is taking place in May 2025, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the Gulf Coast Tennis |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Association for its myriad contributions; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The organization was founded in 2016 by Don Cudd and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Joan Houken; an all-volunteer nonprofit community association |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | affiliated with the United States Tennis Association Texas, GCTA |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | promotes tennis in Brazoria and Matagorda Counties and in other |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | areas along the Texas Gulf Coast south of Houston; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, GCTA has introduced many programs and events since |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | its inception; in addition to free tennis lessons, team tennis, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | doubles leagues, and tournaments, its offerings also include the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Ace It summer camp for youth and Alley Cats Red Ball for adults who |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | are new to the game; in 2022, the association awarded its first |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | scholarship and started the Tennis for All camp, and two years |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | later, members of a GCTA team achieved first-place and third-place |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | finishes in a Special Olympics Texas event; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Gulf Coast Tennis Association is made up of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | volunteers who help grow the sport in their communities, and each |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | year, these individuals are honored for their exemplary efforts at |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | an appreciation banquet that is held in August; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, For nearly a decade, the Gulf Coast Tennis |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Association has helped countless Texans reach their full potential |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | both on and off the court, and the organization's founders, board |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | members, and staff are indeed deserving of recognition for their |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby honor the Gulf Coast Tennis Association on the |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | occasion of National Tennis Month 2025 and extend to all those |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | affiliated with the group sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | prepared for GCTA as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | of Representatives. |
