 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Kicker Zane Gonzalez delivered an outstanding
 performance for the Washington Commanders during the football
 team's 2025 playoff campaign, helping the franchise advance to the
 NFC Championship Game for the first time in 33 years; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzalez joined the Commanders in November
 2024, and he was one of four players to take over kicking duties for
 the squad; rising to the occasion, he booted a perfect 19 of 19
 extra point kicks and 5 of his 7 field goal attempts during the
 regular season; in a wild-card matchup with Tampa Bay, he knocked a
 game-winning 37-yard field goal through the goal posts on the final
 play to clinch a 23-20 victory; he went on to drill six PATs in the
 divisional round to help the Commanders defeat the Detroit Lions,
 setting up a conference championship showdown against their
 division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles; Washington, which had
 last competed in the NFC title game in 1992, ultimately came up
 short in its bid to reach the Super Bowl, and Mr. Gonzalez finished
 the postseason an impressive seven for eight on field goal attempts
 and a flawless eight for eight on extra point tries; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Deer Park, Mr. Gonzalez was a standout
 athlete in soccer and football at Deer Park High School; he excelled
 on the gridiron, converting all of his kicking attempts his senior
 season and attracting the attention of college scouts; signing with
 Arizona State University, he played in 51 games with the Sun Devils,
 finishing his exceptional career there as the FBS all-time leader
 in field goals made and points by a kicker; he also became the first
 player in FBS history to make 20 or more field goals in each of his
 four seasons, and he won the 2016 Lou Groza Award as the nation's
 top collegiate placekicker; and
 WHEREAS, The Cleveland Browns selected Mr. Gonzalez in the
 2017 NFL Draft, and he played parts of two seasons for the team
 before joining the Arizona Cardinals and later starting for the
 Carolina Panthers; and
 WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent, dedication, and
 perseverance, Zane Gonzalez is a source of great pride to fans
 across the Lone Star State, and he is indeed deserving of
 recognition for all that he has achieved; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Zane Gonzalez on helping the
 Washington Commanders advance to the 2025 NFC Championship Game and
 extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
