7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Montgomery Independent School District is |
---|
8 | 9 | | marking the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2025; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Public education has deep roots in the Montgomery |
---|
10 | 11 | | community dating back to 1837, when the town was platted and |
---|
11 | 12 | | Dr. E. J. Arnold and C. E. Clepper donated land for the |
---|
12 | 13 | | construction of a Masonic lodge and a public school; the town's |
---|
13 | 14 | | citizens went on to create the Montgomery School Association in |
---|
14 | 15 | | November 1846 in order to promote education within the community; |
---|
15 | 16 | | some eight decades later, on March 16, 1925, the Texas Legislature |
---|
16 | 17 | | formally established Montgomery ISD with the passage of Senate Bill |
---|
17 | 18 | | 441; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Initially, the district faced significant |
---|
19 | 20 | | challenges, including poor road conditions, financial |
---|
20 | 21 | | difficulties, a lack of experienced teachers, and opposition from |
---|
21 | 22 | | local residents; yet, by the end of 1926, it had gained strong |
---|
22 | 23 | | community support by demonstrating its commitment to offering |
---|
23 | 24 | | enhanced educational opportunities through its affiliation with |
---|
24 | 25 | | the State Department of Education in English, mathematics, |
---|
25 | 26 | | agriculture, and home economics; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The completion of Lake Conroe in 1973 brought a wave |
---|
27 | 28 | | of residential and commercial development to the area, resulting in |
---|
28 | 29 | | a significant rise in student enrollment and necessitating the |
---|
29 | 30 | | expansion of the district's educational facilities and resources to |
---|
30 | 31 | | better meet the needs of the community; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Today, Montgomery ISD encompasses 11 campuses and |
---|
32 | 33 | | serves nearly 10,000 students; the district maintains a steadfast |
---|
33 | 34 | | dedication to excellence in academics, career and technical |
---|
34 | 35 | | education, fine arts, and athletics, and it is committed to |
---|
35 | 36 | | preserving its "small town" values, ensuring that the best |
---|
36 | 37 | | interests of its students remain at the heart of its mission; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of the past century, Montgomery ISD |
---|
38 | 39 | | has provided generations of young Texans with a strong foundation |
---|
39 | 40 | | on which to build, and it is indeed a privilege to join in marking |
---|
40 | 41 | | this important milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the |
---|
43 | 44 | | Montgomery Independent School District and extend to the district's |
---|
44 | 45 | | administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes |
---|
45 | 46 | | for continued success; and, be it further |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

47 | 48 | | prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the |
