 R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Montgomery Independent School District is
marking the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2025; and
WHEREAS, Public education has deep roots in the Montgomery
community dating back to 1837, when the town was platted and
Dr. E. J. Arnold and C. E. Clepper donated land for the
construction of a Masonic lodge and a public school; the town's
citizens went on to create the Montgomery School Association in
 November 1846 in order to promote education within the community;
some eight decades later, on March 16, 1925, the Texas Legislature
formally established Montgomery ISD with the passage of Senate Bill
 441; and
WHEREAS, Initially, the district faced significant
challenges, including poor road conditions, financial
difficulties, a lack of experienced teachers, and opposition from
local residents; yet, by the end of 1926, it had gained strong
community support by demonstrating its commitment to offering
enhanced educational opportunities through its affiliation with
the State Department of Education in English, mathematics,
 agriculture, and home economics; and
WHEREAS, The completion of Lake Conroe in 1973 brought a wave
of residential and commercial development to the area, resulting in
a significant rise in student enrollment and necessitating the
expansion of the district's educational facilities and resources to
better meet the needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, Today, Montgomery ISD encompasses 11 campuses and
serves nearly 10,000 students; the district maintains a steadfast
dedication to excellence in academics, career and technical
education, fine arts, and athletics, and it is committed to
preserving its "small town" values, ensuring that the best
interests of its students remain at the heart of its mission; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of the past century, Montgomery ISD
has provided generations of young Texans with a strong foundation
on which to build, and it is indeed a privilege to join in marking
this important milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
Montgomery Independent School District and extend to the district's
administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
