H.R. No. 410 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, May 2025 is being observed as Jewish American Heritage Month, a time to recognize the many vital contributions made by Jewish Americans; and WHEREAS, The American Jewish community traces its roots to 1654, when a group of 23 Jewish men, women, and children migrated to New York from Recife, Brazil, to escape the threat of persecution; during the more than 350 years that have followed, Jewish Americans have played an integral role in our nation's development and have demonstrated their commitment to their country and their communities in myriad ways; only a few years after the American Jewish community celebrated its 350th anniversary, May was proclaimed as Jewish American Heritage Month by President George W. Bush in 2006; and WHEREAS, Throughout our history, Jewish Americans have served in government and the military, have headed universities and corporations, and have upheld the rule of law as members of the U.S. Supreme Court; they have made significant advancements in science and medicine and won Nobel Prizes for their discoveries, and they have immeasurably enriched American culture through their collective achievements in art, literature, music, and other creative arenas; the members of Jewish organizations in Texas are working to build on the legacy of the countless Jews from across the state who have made significant contributions to society, culture, and industry; and WHEREAS, Since the time of our country's founding, Jewish Americans have distinguished themselves in numerous areas of endeavor, and it is fitting to acknowledge the role that they continue to play in furthering the prosperity and quality of life of our state and nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby recognize May 2025 as Jewish American Heritage Month.
