 R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Renowned Texas musician and actor Lyle Lovett is
visiting the State Capitol on March 18, 2025, providing a welcome
opportunity to pay tribute to his myriad achievements; and
WHEREAS, Lyle Lovett was raised on a horse ranch in Klein, a
town named after his great-great-grandfather, an early German
settler of the area; in ninth grade at Klein High School, he joined
his first band with his fellow FFA members, but he did not begin
writing songs until he attended Texas A&M University; following
graduation, he went on to study and play music in Germany; after
returning home, he earned a following on stages across the state
before further pursuing a music career in Nashville; he signed with
MCA/Curb Records in 1986, and later that year, he released his
eponymous debut, which spawned five singles that reached the Top-40
country charts; his popular second album, Pontiac, moved beyond the
traditions of country and western with a blend of pop, jazz, blues,
swing, and rock and roll that became his unique sound; to support
the album, he formed His Large Band, a modified big band that
included the gospel-trained backup singer Francine Reed; the group
joined him for the recording of his third album, Lyle Lovett and His
Large Band, which achieved gold certification; and
WHEREAS, After moving to Los Angeles, Mr. Lovett acted in the
Robert Altman films The Player and Short Cuts, and in 2000, he
released the soundtrack of Dr.T. & the Women for the famed
director; the '90s also saw the release of I Love Everybody, a
collection of songs Mr. Lovett wrote in the early stages of his
career, The Road to Ensenada, which peaked at No. 4 on the country
charts, and Step Inside This House, a collection of covers that
highlighted the works of other Texas artists, such as his longtime
college friend, Robert Earl Keen; Mr. Lovett has received four
Grammy Awards and has published several albums on the Lost Highway
imprint along the way, and he has continued to appear in film and
television and tour with and without His Large Band as well as the
Acoustic Group in Texas and beyond; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Lovett received an honorary
doctorate from the University of Houston for his extensive
philanthropic work, which has included support of the Texas A&M
community and for organizations such as The University of Texas MD
Anderson Cancer Center, Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, and Houston Ride for
Kids; he maintains his roots in Klein, where he lives with his wife,
April Kimble, and their twins, Ella and Will, in his grandparents'
old house; he is a congregant of Trinity Klein Lutheran Church,
 which his great-great-grandfather co-founded; and
WHEREAS, With his distinctive sound, masterful songwriting,
and vibrant live performances, Lyle Lovett has earned a special
place in the pantheon of artists from the Lone Star State, and his
outstanding accomplishments are a source of tremendous pride to the
Klein community and his fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Lyle Lovett for his contributions and
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Lovett as an expression of high regard by the Texas
