67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
89 passing of Alfred G. Mello Jr. of Dallas on November 19, 2023, at
910 the age of 85; and
1011 WHEREAS, Born in Billerica, Massachusetts, on July 17, 1938,
1112 Al Mello was the son of Alfred and Mary Neville Mello; during his
1213 childhood, his father's career in the military took the family to
1314 California and Texas and eventually to North Little Rock, Arkansas,
1415 where he graduated from high school in 1956; he subsequently
1516 studied engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
1617 before earning bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial
1718 engineering from Southern Methodist University; and
1819 WHEREAS, After working for Texas Instruments for many years,
1920 Mr. Mello struck out on his own and established The Mello Company;
2021 he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence as both an
2122 engineer and entrepreneur, and he relished the challenges involved
2223 in running a small manufacturing business; outside of his
2324 professional and business interests, he was an active member of
2425 Christ Renews His Parish and the senior men's ministry at St. Rita
2526 Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60
2627 years; he also found time to prepare and deliver food for the people
2728 staying at the Austin Street Center shelter in Dallas, and he
2829 enjoyed bonding with the residents and listening to their stories
2930 whenever he visited; and
3031 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mello was blessed with the
3132 love and support of his wife of 24 years, Luanne Mello, his son,
3233 Chip, and his grandsons, Mitchell and Sean; he was a pillar of
3334 strength to his family, and he set an inspiring example for others
3435 through his wisdom, integrity, and kindness; and
3536 WHEREAS, Although his passing brings great sadness to his
3637 loved ones, Al Mello leaves behind a legacy that will long be
3738 treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alfred G. Mello Jr.
4041 and extend sincere sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be
4142 it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Al Mello.
