7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

8 | 9 | | passing of Alfred G. Mello Jr. of Dallas on November 19, 2023, at |

9 | 10 | | the age of 85; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born in Billerica, Massachusetts, on July 17, 1938, |
---|
11 | 12 | | Al Mello was the son of Alfred and Mary Neville Mello; during his |
---|
12 | 13 | | childhood, his father's career in the military took the family to |
---|
13 | 14 | | California and Texas and eventually to North Little Rock, Arkansas, |
---|
14 | 15 | | where he graduated from high school in 1956; he subsequently |
---|
15 | 16 | | studied engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology |
---|
16 | 17 | | before earning bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial |
---|
17 | 18 | | engineering from Southern Methodist University; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, After working for Texas Instruments for many years, |
---|
19 | 20 | | Mr. Mello struck out on his own and established The Mello Company; |
---|
20 | 21 | | he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence as both an |
---|
21 | 22 | | engineer and entrepreneur, and he relished the challenges involved |
---|
22 | 23 | | in running a small manufacturing business; outside of his |
---|
23 | 24 | | professional and business interests, he was an active member of |
---|
24 | 25 | | Christ Renews His Parish and the senior men's ministry at St. Rita |
---|
25 | 26 | | Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 |
---|
26 | 27 | | years; he also found time to prepare and deliver food for the people |
---|
27 | 28 | | staying at the Austin Street Center shelter in Dallas, and he |
---|
28 | 29 | | enjoyed bonding with the residents and listening to their stories |
---|
29 | 30 | | whenever he visited; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mello was blessed with the |
---|
31 | 32 | | love and support of his wife of 24 years, Luanne Mello, his son, |
---|
32 | 33 | | Chip, and his grandsons, Mitchell and Sean; he was a pillar of |
---|
33 | 34 | | strength to his family, and he set an inspiring example for others |
---|
34 | 35 | | through his wisdom, integrity, and kindness; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Although his passing brings great sadness to his |
---|
36 | 37 | | loved ones, Al Mello leaves behind a legacy that will long be |
---|
37 | 38 | | treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alfred G. Mello Jr. |
---|
40 | 41 | | and extend sincere sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be |

41 | 42 | | it further |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
