H.R. No. 533 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Alfred G. Mello Jr. of Dallas on November 19, 2023, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, Born in Billerica, Massachusetts, on July 17, 1938, Al Mello was the son of Alfred and Mary Neville Mello; during his childhood, his father's career in the military took the family to California and Texas and eventually to North Little Rock, Arkansas, where he graduated from high school in 1956; he subsequently studied engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before earning bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial engineering from Southern Methodist University; and WHEREAS, After working for Texas Instruments for many years, Mr. Mello struck out on his own and established The Mello Company; he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence as both an engineer and entrepreneur, and he relished the challenges involved in running a small manufacturing business; outside of his professional and business interests, he was an active member of Christ Renews His Parish and the senior men's ministry at St. Rita Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years; he also found time to prepare and deliver food for the people staying at the Austin Street Center shelter in Dallas, and he enjoyed bonding with the residents and listening to their stories whenever he visited; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Mello was blessed with the love and support of his wife of 24 years, Luanne Mello, his son, Chip, and his grandsons, Mitchell and Sean; he was a pillar of strength to his family, and he set an inspiring example for others through his wisdom, integrity, and kindness; and WHEREAS, Although his passing brings great sadness to his loved ones, Al Mello leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alfred G. Mello Jr. and extend sincere sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Al Mello.
