7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Katy community lost a beloved member with the |

8 | 9 | | death of Paula Kay Hughes on January 8, 2025, at the age of 83; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born on April 22, 1941, in Pontiac, Michigan, to |
---|
10 | 11 | | Paul Ervin Stapp and Delma Kayga Stapp, the former Paula Stapp was |
---|
11 | 12 | | raised with the values of love, kindness, and community; she grew up |
---|
12 | 13 | | with four siblings, Judy, Tom, Richard, and Mike, and she attended |
---|
13 | 14 | | St. Agnes Academy and Friendswood High School, where she graduated |
---|
14 | 15 | | in 1961 and was a member of the cheerleading squad; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, On October 11, 1962, she exchanged vows with Fabol |
---|
16 | 17 | | Hughes, and the couple shared a rewarding union that spanned more |
---|
17 | 18 | | than six decades; Mrs. Hughes took great pride in their children, |
---|
18 | 19 | | Robin, Melissa, Kim, and Charlie, and with the passing years, she |
---|
19 | 20 | | had the pleasure of seeing her treasured family grow to include four |
---|
20 | 21 | | grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to her community, Mrs. Hughes served as an |
---|
22 | 23 | | ambassador of the City of Katy, and she also acted as its first lady |
---|
23 | 24 | | during her husband's tenure as mayor; she was a dedicated member of |
---|
24 | 25 | | the city's Parks and Recreation Board, where her contributions |
---|
25 | 26 | | helped enhance the quality of life for all of the area's residents; |
---|
26 | 27 | | moreover, her great concern for the well-being of children led her |
---|
27 | 28 | | to support such causes as Shriners Hospitals for Children and the |
---|
28 | 29 | | St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In her leisure hours, Mrs. Hughes enjoyed cheering |
---|
30 | 31 | | on the Katy Tigers football team and the Houston Astros and |
---|
31 | 32 | | supporting her grandchildren at their sporting events; she also |
---|
32 | 33 | | liked attending concerts and dancing, and she brightened the days |
---|
33 | 34 | | of everyone around her with her vivacious personality, infectious |
---|
34 | 35 | | laughter, and great compassion; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Admired for her dedication to her family, to her |
---|
36 | 37 | | community, and to service, Paula Hughes leaves behind a legacy that |
---|
37 | 38 | | will forever be cherished by all who knew her; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Paula Kay Hughes and |
