67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
89 a close with the passing of Vertis O'Neal Storey of Kaufman on
910 January 29, 2025, at the age of 79; and
1011 WHEREAS, The son of Harold and Mildred Storey, Vertis Storey
1112 was born in Galveston on July 20, 1945, and he grew up in Houston
1213 with his sister, Marilyn; he graduated from Milby High School, and
1314 he earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at the University
1415 of Houston in 1973; two years later, he completed graduate school at
1516 Stephen F. Austin State University; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Storey embarked on his career as a staff
1718 psychologist at Terrell State Hospital; he spent some four decades
1819 at the hospital, providing exemplary care to patients and serving
1920 as the director of quality management; he was at the forefront of
2021 the implementation of the state hospital electronic medical record
2122 system, and he helped develop new programming while serving as
2223 director for the Career Village and the multiple disabilities,
2324 transitional living, and extended care units; moreover, he was
2425 program director for a number of other hospital treatment programs
2526 as well as for state committees and task forces; after retiring in
2627 2017, he joined the board of the Terrell State Hospital Volunteer
2728 Services Council; and
2829 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Storey enjoyed the love
2930 and support of his wife of 58 years, Mary Carolyn; they raised two
3031 children, Alison and Christopher, and welcomed two grandchildren
3132 and two great-grandchildren into their family; Mr. Storey liked to
3233 travel, and he and his wife supported many community and social
3334 projects; and
3435 WHEREAS, While the death of Vertis Storey brings great
3536 sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long
3637 be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Vertis O'Neal
3940 Storey and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
4041 family: to his wife, Mary Carolyn Storey; to his daughter, Alison
4142 Storey-Novak, and her husband, Mark; to his grandchildren, Vanessa
4243 Collins and Storey White and his wife, Destinae; to his
4344 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Christopher Carpenter; and to his
4445 many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vertis
4849 Storey.
