7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

8 | 9 | | a close with the passing of Vertis O'Neal Storey of Kaufman on |

9 | 10 | | January 29, 2025, at the age of 79; and |
---|
10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of Harold and Mildred Storey, Vertis Storey |
---|
11 | 12 | | was born in Galveston on July 20, 1945, and he grew up in Houston |
---|
12 | 13 | | with his sister, Marilyn; he graduated from Milby High School, and |
---|
13 | 14 | | he earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at the University |
---|
14 | 15 | | of Houston in 1973; two years later, he completed graduate school at |
---|
15 | 16 | | Stephen F. Austin State University; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Storey embarked on his career as a staff |
---|
17 | 18 | | psychologist at Terrell State Hospital; he spent some four decades |
---|
18 | 19 | | at the hospital, providing exemplary care to patients and serving |
---|
19 | 20 | | as the director of quality management; he was at the forefront of |
---|
20 | 21 | | the implementation of the state hospital electronic medical record |
---|
21 | 22 | | system, and he helped develop new programming while serving as |
---|
22 | 23 | | director for the Career Village and the multiple disabilities, |
---|
23 | 24 | | transitional living, and extended care units; moreover, he was |
---|
24 | 25 | | program director for a number of other hospital treatment programs |
---|
25 | 26 | | as well as for state committees and task forces; after retiring in |
---|
26 | 27 | | 2017, he joined the board of the Terrell State Hospital Volunteer |
---|
27 | 28 | | Services Council; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Storey enjoyed the love |
---|
29 | 30 | | and support of his wife of 58 years, Mary Carolyn; they raised two |
---|
30 | 31 | | children, Alison and Christopher, and welcomed two grandchildren |
---|
31 | 32 | | and two great-grandchildren into their family; Mr. Storey liked to |
---|
32 | 33 | | travel, and he and his wife supported many community and social |
---|
33 | 34 | | projects; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Vertis Storey brings great |
---|
35 | 36 | | sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long |
---|
36 | 37 | | be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Vertis O'Neal |

39 | 40 | | Storey and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his |

40 | 41 | | family: to his wife, Mary Carolyn Storey; to his daughter, Alison |
