H.R. No. 579 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of Vertis O'Neal Storey of Kaufman on January 29, 2025, at the age of 79; and WHEREAS, The son of Harold and Mildred Storey, Vertis Storey was born in Galveston on July 20, 1945, and he grew up in Houston with his sister, Marilyn; he graduated from Milby High School, and he earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Houston in 1973; two years later, he completed graduate school at Stephen F. Austin State University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Storey embarked on his career as a staff psychologist at Terrell State Hospital; he spent some four decades at the hospital, providing exemplary care to patients and serving as the director of quality management; he was at the forefront of the implementation of the state hospital electronic medical record system, and he helped develop new programming while serving as director for the Career Village and the multiple disabilities, transitional living, and extended care units; moreover, he was program director for a number of other hospital treatment programs as well as for state committees and task forces; after retiring in 2017, he joined the board of the Terrell State Hospital Volunteer Services Council; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Storey enjoyed the love and support of his wife of 58 years, Mary Carolyn; they raised two children, Alison and Christopher, and welcomed two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren into their family; Mr. Storey liked to travel, and he and his wife supported many community and social projects; and WHEREAS, While the death of Vertis Storey brings great sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Vertis O'Neal Storey and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Mary Carolyn Storey; to his daughter, Alison Storey-Novak, and her husband, Mark; to his grandchildren, Vanessa Collins and Storey White and his wife, Destinae; to his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Christopher Carpenter; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vertis Storey.
