7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

8 | 9 | | memories of Jonathan David Corder of Levelland, who tragically |

9 | 10 | | passed away on October 27, 2022, at the age of 41; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of David and Sylvia Corder, Jon Corder was |
---|
11 | 12 | | born in El Cajon, California, on August 27, 1981, and he grew up |
---|
12 | 13 | | with two siblings, Jessica and Jeremy; following his graduation |
---|
13 | 14 | | from Levelland High School, he lived in San Marcos and Buda; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 2020, Mr. Corder moved back to Levelland, where |
---|
15 | 16 | | he began working as an animal control officer for the city's police |
---|
16 | 17 | | department; he distinguished himself in his responsibilities of |
---|
17 | 18 | | investigating animal cruelty and neglect, saving animals, helping |
---|
18 | 19 | | to find them homes, and addressing a range of other animal-related |
---|
19 | 20 | | concerns; additionally, he was engaged in providing community |
---|
20 | 21 | | support and outreach, and he earned a reputation for always going |
---|
21 | 22 | | above and beyond in his duties; he and his partner, Crystal Goforth, |
---|
22 | 23 | | were responding to a call on October 13, 2022, when their work truck |
---|
23 | 24 | | was struck by another vehicle; Mr. Corder and Mrs. Goforth died from |
---|
24 | 25 | | the injuries they sustained in the collision, and their dedicated |
---|
25 | 26 | | service has continued to inspire an outpouring of prayers and |
---|
26 | 27 | | sympathy from the community; at the time of his death, Mr. Corder |
---|
27 | 28 | | was attending college with the goal of becoming an addiction |
---|
28 | 29 | | counselor; and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Corder was the proud father of a son, Cole; he |
---|
30 | 31 | | enjoyed visiting casinos and bingo halls with his mother, and he was |
---|
31 | 32 | | a generous man who never met a stranger; his interests included |
---|
32 | 33 | | playing baseball and watching Texas Tech University and Dallas |
---|
33 | 34 | | Cowboys football, and he was passionate about fast cars; and |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Jon Corder will |
---|
35 | 36 | | remember the way he touched their lives with his love of animals and |
---|
36 | 37 | | his giving and compassionate nature, and he will always hold a |
---|
37 | 38 | | treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
