| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Kenedy are gathering on April 9, 2025, |

| 8 | 9 | | to celebrate City of Kenedy Day at the State Capitol; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The town's modern-day site was bequeathed to Carlos |

| 10 | 11 | | Martínez as part of a royal Spanish land grant in 1788; located |

| 11 | 12 | | along the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, the community was |

| 12 | 13 | | established in 1886 as Kenedy Junction by chief SA&AP benefactor |

| 13 | 14 | | Mifflin Kenedy; its post office opened in March 1887, and its name |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | was shortened to Kenedy three months later; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The town experienced significant growth as a trade |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and business center during the railroad era, and it established a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | depot, a cotton gin, and a number of newspapers; in 1894, the Kenedy |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Independent School District was organized with 68 students, and the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | town's first bank opened its doors nearly a decade later; in 1910, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the community was formally incorporated with a population of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | approximately 1,150 residents; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, Kenedy remains an economic focal point for |

| 23 | 24 | | Karnes County, which benefits from the farming, ranching, oil, gas, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and uranium industries; currently home to more than 3,400 |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | residents, the self-proclaimed "flax capital of Texas" is centrally |

| 26 | 27 | | located between the cities of San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Victoria, and it is at the epicenter of the Eagle Ford Shale; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build |

| 29 | 30 | | an even brighter future, residents of Kenedy are justifiably proud |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | of their community, and it is indeed fitting to recognize the city's |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 9, 2025, as City of Kenedy Day at |

| 34 | 35 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |

| 35 | 36 | | delegation. |
