77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The 70th birthday of a beloved community leader is
99 indeed cause for celebration, and Lenora Sorola-Pohlman of Houston
1010 is marking this significant milestone in her life on April 29, 2025;
1111 and
1212 WHEREAS, A second-generation Houstonian, Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman
1313 was born and raised in the historical Magnolia Park barrio in the
1414 East End; she embarked on a career in the insurance industry in the
1515 late 1980s and became a licensed insurance broker in 1996; as a small
1616 business owner, she established Sorola Insurance Services, and she
1717 currently works with Navarro Insurance Group; and
1818 WHEREAS, In 1980, while employed by the City of Houston,
1919 Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman recognized the underrepresentation of women in
2020 leadership and stepped up to advocate for the Hispanic community,
2121 women, children, and families; over the years, she has given
2222 generously of her time and talents to a host of organizations; she
2323 has been a member of the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board during eight
2424 administrations and is currently co-chair; in addition, she has
2525 chaired the City Park Redevelopment Authority Tax Increment
2626 Reinvestment Zone No. 12 and held the office of vice president for
2727 the Houston Foundation; she has also served on the boards of such
2828 organizations as Gulf Coast Workforce Development, the University
2929 of Houston-Downtown President's Leadership Council, and the Houston
3030 Minority Supplier Development Council; and
3131 WHEREAS, Dedicated to mentoring Latinas and promoting
3232 Hispanic leadership, Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman works to empower others
3333 and help them succeed in important roles; her efforts have earned
3434 her myriad accolades, among them the Yolanda Black Navarro Community
3535 Legacy Award, the Comcast Hispanic Hero Award, and the Barbara
3636 Jordan Community Impact Award from the Houston Section of the
3737 National Council of Negro Women; and
3838 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman is a valued member of Our Lady of
3939 Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she and her husband, John Pohlman,
4040 married in 1990; the couple shared a fulfilling relationship until
4141 his passing in 2020; and
4242 WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to
4343 know her, Lenora Sorola-Pohlman may reflect with great satisfaction
4444 on a lifetime of achievement as she celebrates this memorable
4545 occasion; now, therefore, be it
4646 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4747 Legislature hereby congratulate Lenora Sorola-Pohlman on her 70th
4848 birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
4949 happiness; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared
5151 for Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5252 House of Representatives.
