8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The 70th birthday of a beloved community leader is |

9 | 9 | | indeed cause for celebration, and Lenora Sorola-Pohlman of Houston |

10 | 10 | | is marking this significant milestone in her life on April 29, 2025; |

---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A second-generation Houstonian, Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman |
---|
13 | 13 | | was born and raised in the historical Magnolia Park barrio in the |
---|
14 | 14 | | East End; she embarked on a career in the insurance industry in the |
---|
15 | 15 | | late 1980s and became a licensed insurance broker in 1996; as a small |
---|
16 | 16 | | business owner, she established Sorola Insurance Services, and she |
---|
17 | 17 | | currently works with Navarro Insurance Group; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 1980, while employed by the City of Houston, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman recognized the underrepresentation of women in |
---|
20 | 20 | | leadership and stepped up to advocate for the Hispanic community, |
---|
21 | 21 | | women, children, and families; over the years, she has given |
---|
22 | 22 | | generously of her time and talents to a host of organizations; she |
---|
23 | 23 | | has been a member of the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board during eight |
---|
24 | 24 | | administrations and is currently co-chair; in addition, she has |
---|
25 | 25 | | chaired the City Park Redevelopment Authority Tax Increment |
---|
26 | 26 | | Reinvestment Zone No. 12 and held the office of vice president for |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Houston Foundation; she has also served on the boards of such |
---|
28 | 28 | | organizations as Gulf Coast Workforce Development, the University |
---|
29 | 29 | | of Houston-Downtown President's Leadership Council, and the Houston |
---|
30 | 30 | | Minority Supplier Development Council; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to mentoring Latinas and promoting |
---|
32 | 32 | | Hispanic leadership, Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman works to empower others |
---|
33 | 33 | | and help them succeed in important roles; her efforts have earned |
---|
34 | 34 | | her myriad accolades, among them the Yolanda Black Navarro Community |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legacy Award, the Comcast Hispanic Hero Award, and the Barbara |
---|
36 | 36 | | Jordan Community Impact Award from the Houston Section of the |
---|
37 | 37 | | National Council of Negro Women; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Sorola-Pohlman is a valued member of Our Lady of |
---|
39 | 39 | | Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she and her husband, John Pohlman, |
---|
40 | 40 | | married in 1990; the couple shared a fulfilling relationship until |
---|
41 | 41 | | his passing in 2020; and |
---|
42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who are privileged to |
---|
43 | 43 | | know her, Lenora Sorola-Pohlman may reflect with great satisfaction |
---|
44 | 44 | | on a lifetime of achievement as she celebrates this memorable |
---|
45 | 45 | | occasion; now, therefore, be it |

46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

47 | 47 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lenora Sorola-Pohlman on her 70th |

48 | 48 | | birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
