No. 989 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Members of the Chambers County Sheriff's Office Explorers achieved great distinction with their exceptional showing at the Space City Explorer Challenge, hosted by the Houston Police Department on March 29, 2025; and WHEREAS, Individuals between the ages of 14 and 21 are eligible for the Explorer program, which provides educational and leadership training as well as community service opportunities that help equip youth with the skills necessary to become engaged and productive citizens; the CCSO Explorers and teams from the San Antonio Police Department, the Dallas Police Department, and the Harris County Sheriff's Office joined other posts from across Texas at the annual contest; participants are tested on their knowledge, teamwork, and practical skills as they compete in realistic law enforcement-based events, including search warrant of a residence, burglary in progress, intoxicated driver, and officer down; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating impressive professionalism and discipline, CCSO Explorers Kam Carter, LilliAnn Dueitt, Cameron Gonzales, and Ian Nix excelled in three categories, placing first in arrest/search warrant, third in burglary in process, and third in intoxicated driver; the CCSO initiative benefits from the mentorship of Sergeant Brian Orlando and Deputy Mariana Avalos as well as the support of county District Attorney Cheryl Lieck Henry and Sheriff Brian Hawthorne, who has hired a number of former Explorers for positions in his department; and WHEREAS, Through their hard work and commitment to excellence, the CCSO Explorers have brought great pride to their community, and they are truly deserving of special recognition for their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Chambers County Sheriff's Office Explorers on their outstanding performance at the 2025 Space City Explorer Challenge and extend to these fine young Texans sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
