69 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
710 AN ACT
811 relating to creation and maintenance of an electronic database to
912 provide information to certain members of the United States armed
1013 forces regarding the resources and benefits provided to veterans.
1114 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1215 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 434, Government Code, is
1316 amended by adding Section 434.0261 to read as follows:
1417 Sec. 434.0261. ELECTRONIC DATABASE OF CONTACT INFORMATION
1518 FOR SERVICE MEMBERS LEAVING ACTIVE DUTY. (a) The commission shall
1619 establish and maintain an electronic database that includes the
1720 name and contact information of each member of the United States
1821 armed forces who:
1922 (1) has provided written consent to the commission to
2023 have the member's information included in the database; and
2124 (2) will be discharged or released from active duty
2225 within 12 months of the date the member provides the consent
2326 described by Subdivision (1).
2427 (b) The database established under Subsection (a) must
2528 allow state agencies and local veteran service organizations,
2629 including veterans county service offices, that have applied to and
2730 been approved by the commission to access the database for the
2831 purpose of providing to members of the United States armed forces
2932 included in the database information regarding state and local
3033 benefits and resources available to veterans, including
3134 information regarding employment and training opportunities,
3235 housing, entrepreneurial and health care services, and veteran
3336 support groups.
3437 (c) The commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement
3538 and administer this section, including rules establishing the
3639 procedure by which entities apply to and are approved by the
3740 commission to access the database established under Subsection (a).
3841 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
