117 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
128 AN ACT
139 relating to an exemption from the assessment requirements of the
1410 Texas Success Initiative for students who achieve certain scores on
1511 the PSAT.
1612 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1713 SECTION 1. Section 51.338(b), Education Code, is amended to
1814 read as follows:
1915 (b) A student who has achieved a score set by the board on
2016 the PSAT, SAT, or ACT is exempt from the requirements of this
2117 subchapter. An exemption under this subsection is effective for
2218 the five-year period following the date a student takes the test and
2319 achieves the standard set by the board.
2420 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies
2521 beginning with the assessment of entering undergraduate students at
2622 public institutions of higher education for the 2026 fall semester.
2723 The assessment of an entering undergraduate student for an academic
2824 term before that semester is governed by the law in effect before
2925 the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect
3026 for that purpose.
3127 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
