16 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

17 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Section 51.338(b), Education Code, is amended to |
---|
18 | 14 | | read as follows: |
---|
19 | 15 | | (b) A student who has achieved a score set by the board on |
---|
20 | 16 | | the PSAT, SAT, or ACT is exempt from the requirements of this |
---|
21 | 17 | | subchapter. An exemption under this subsection is effective for |
---|
22 | 18 | | the five-year period following the date a student takes the test and |
---|
23 | 19 | | achieves the standard set by the board. |
---|
24 | 20 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies |
---|
25 | 21 | | beginning with the assessment of entering undergraduate students at |
---|
26 | 22 | | public institutions of higher education for the 2026 fall semester. |
---|
27 | 23 | | The assessment of an entering undergraduate student for an academic |
---|
28 | 24 | | term before that semester is governed by the law in effect before |
---|
29 | 25 | | the effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect |
---|
30 | 26 | | for that purpose. |

31 | 27 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
