710 AN ACT
811 relating to the creation of a grant program to promote educational
912 engagement with Texas history.
1013 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1114 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is
1215 amended by adding Section 442.0205 to read as follows:
1316 Sec. 442.0205. TEXAS HISTORY GRANT PROGRAM. (a) The
1417 commission shall create and administer a grant program to support
1518 the purpose of promoting educational engagement with the history of
1619 this state. Subject to Subsection (b), the grants must be awarded
1720 annually to nonprofit entities that:
1821 (1) host a statewide Texas history competition for
1922 school-aged students; and
2023 (2) publish works on Texas history written by students
2124 or faculty members.
2225 (b) The commission shall establish procedures to administer
2326 the grant program, including procedures for applying for a grant
2427 under this section. The commission shall enter into a contract that
2528 includes performance requirements with each grant recipient. The
2629 commission shall monitor and enforce the terms of the contract.
2730 (c) In addition to funds appropriated by the legislature,
2831 the commission may solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations
2932 from any public or private source for the purpose of awarding grants
3033 under this section.
3134 SECTION 2. The Texas Historical Commission shall establish
3235 the procedures for applying for a grant under Section 442.0205,
3336 Government Code, as added by this Act, not later than October 1,
3437 2025.
3538 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3639 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3740 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3841 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3942 Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
