| 10 | 13 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 14 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 15 | | amended by adding Section 442.0205 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 16 | | Sec. 442.0205. TEXAS HISTORY GRANT PROGRAM. (a) The |
|---|
| 14 | 17 | | commission shall create and administer a grant program to support |
|---|
| 15 | 18 | | the purpose of promoting educational engagement with the history of |
|---|
| 16 | 19 | | this state. Subject to Subsection (b), the grants must be awarded |
|---|
| 17 | 20 | | annually to nonprofit entities that: |
|---|
| 18 | 21 | | (1) host a statewide Texas history competition for |
|---|
| 19 | 22 | | school-aged students; and |
|---|
| 20 | 23 | | (2) publish works on Texas history written by students |
|---|
| 21 | 24 | | or faculty members. |
|---|
| 22 | 25 | | (b) The commission shall establish procedures to administer |
|---|
| 23 | 26 | | the grant program, including procedures for applying for a grant |
|---|
| 24 | 27 | | under this section. The commission shall enter into a contract that |
|---|
| 25 | 28 | | includes performance requirements with each grant recipient. The |
|---|
| 26 | 29 | | commission shall monitor and enforce the terms of the contract. |
|---|
| 27 | 30 | | (c) In addition to funds appropriated by the legislature, |
|---|
| 28 | 31 | | the commission may solicit and accept gifts, grants, and donations |
|---|
| 29 | 32 | | from any public or private source for the purpose of awarding grants |
|---|
| 30 | 33 | | under this section. |
|---|
| 31 | 34 | | SECTION 2. The Texas Historical Commission shall establish |
|---|
| 32 | 35 | | the procedures for applying for a grant under Section 442.0205, |
|---|
| 33 | 36 | | Government Code, as added by this Act, not later than October 1, |
|---|
| 34 | 37 | | 2025. |
|---|
| 35 | 38 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 36 | 39 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 37 | 40 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 38 | 41 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 39 | 42 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
