77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to a screening for the risk of commercial sexual
1010 exploitation of certain children.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 266.012(a), Family Code, is amended to
1313 read as follows:
1414 (a) Not later than the 45th day after the date a child enters
1515 the conservatorship of the department, the child shall receive a
1616 developmentally appropriate comprehensive assessment. The
1717 assessment must include:
1818 (1) a screening for trauma; [and]
1919 (2) a screening for risk of commercial sexual
2020 exploitation using a validated screening tool selected by the Child
2121 Sex Trafficking Prevention Unit established under Section
2222 772.0062, Government Code; and
2323 (3) interviews with individuals who have knowledge of
2424 the child's needs.
2525 SECTION 2. Section 221.003(b), Human Resources Code, is
2626 amended to read as follows:
2727 (b) A juvenile probation department must, before the
2828 disposition of a child's case and using a validated risk and needs
2929 assessment instrument or process provided or approved by the
3030 department, complete a risk and needs assessment for each child
3131 under the jurisdiction of the juvenile probation department. The
3232 risk and needs assessment must include a screening for risk of
3333 commercial sexual exploitation using a screening tool selected by
3434 the Child Sex Trafficking Prevention Unit established under Section
3535 772.0062, Government Code.
3636 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
