10 | 10 | | exploitation of certain children. |

11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 266.012(a), Family Code, is amended to |
---|
13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
---|
14 | 14 | | (a) Not later than the 45th day after the date a child enters |
---|
15 | 15 | | the conservatorship of the department, the child shall receive a |
---|
16 | 16 | | developmentally appropriate comprehensive assessment. The |
---|
17 | 17 | | assessment must include: |
---|
18 | 18 | | (1) a screening for trauma; [and] |
---|
19 | 19 | | (2) a screening for risk of commercial sexual |
---|
20 | 20 | | exploitation using a validated screening tool selected by the Child |
---|
21 | 21 | | Sex Trafficking Prevention Unit established under Section |
---|
22 | 22 | | 772.0062, Government Code; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | (3) interviews with individuals who have knowledge of |
---|
24 | 24 | | the child's needs. |

25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Section 221.003(b), Human Resources Code, is |
---|
26 | 26 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
27 | 27 | | (b) A juvenile probation department must, before the |
---|
28 | 28 | | disposition of a child's case and using a validated risk and needs |
---|
29 | 29 | | assessment instrument or process provided or approved by the |
---|
30 | 30 | | department, complete a risk and needs assessment for each child |
---|
31 | 31 | | under the jurisdiction of the juvenile probation department. The |
---|
32 | 32 | | risk and needs assessment must include a screening for risk of |
---|
33 | 33 | | commercial sexual exploitation using a screening tool selected by |
---|
34 | 34 | | the Child Sex Trafficking Prevention Unit established under Section |
---|
35 | 35 | | 772.0062, Government Code. |
---|
36 | 36 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
