Click here to see the committee vote SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Transnational cartels have exploited weak points along the United States Southern Border, expanding their criminal activities and endangering Americans, particularly Texans, as a direct result of inadequate federal border policies over the past four years; and WHEREAS, In 2024 alone, U.S. authorities seized enough fentanyl to endanger every American life, underscoring the critical need for effective border security measures; and WHEREAS, The federal government failed its constitutional duty to protect our borders, forcing The State of Texas to spend $11 billion on border security efforts, deploying advanced technology, constructing border barriers, and mobilizing thousands of National and State Guard members, and demands the reimbursement of these costs; and WHEREAS, Texas' Operation Lone Star has achieved significant results in mitigating the effects of illegal immigration and cartel-driven human and drug trafficking, addressing challenges left unaddressed by the previous federal administration; and WHEREAS, The continual breaches of Texas' sovereignty and security due to federal inaction have forced the state to bear a disproportionate burden in managing border-related threats; and WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature acknowledges the Trump administration's steadfast commitment to improving border security and expresses that Texas will be a true partner in securing our border; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby declare its disappointment in the Biden administration's border security policies, which failed to adequately protect Texas, and reaffirms its support for the new administration's efforts to enhance security along the Southern Border; and, be it further RESOLVED, That the Texas Legislature respectfully urge the federal government to take immediate action in addressing these longstanding issues, including increased resources and support for state-led initiatives, to restore order and security at the border; and, be it further RESOLVED, That the Texas Secretary of State forward official copies of this resolution to the President of the United States, to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all members of the Texas delegation to Congress, with the request that this resolution be entered into the Congressional Record as a testament to Texas' commitment to work alongside the federal government for a secure border. * * * * *
