SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107 In Memory of Charles Scianna Jr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Charles "Chuck" Scianna Jr., who died January 14, 2025, at the age of 71; and WHEREAS, Chuck was born June 22, 1953, in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi; after graduating from Bay High School, he served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi; and WHEREAS, He began his career in the oil and gas industry, and in 1986, he founded the oil country tubular goods wholesaler, Sim-Tex, which is still thriving today; and WHEREAS, A passionate advocate for education, Mr. Scianna believed wholeheartedly in investing in young people and the institutions that serve them; both the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University named campus buildings Scianna Hall in recognition of his contributions and generosity; he was also active in such worthy organizations as the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Boys and Girls Country, and the University of Southern Mississippi's Foundation Board and Athletic Board; and WHEREAS, Mr. Scianna's outstanding achievements and public service were recognized with numerous prestigious accolades, including the Heritage Award from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, and he was honored by his alma mater with the College of Business Entrepreneur of the Year award, an honorary doctorate, and induction into the Alumni Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Though his positive contributions to his community and his dedicated support of education were profound, Chuck's greatest pride and joy was his family; a devoted husband to Rita for 50 years, a loving father to Ashley and Stephanie, and a doting grandfather, Chuck cherished time spent with his loved ones, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and altruism that will be treasured by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Charles Scianna Jr.; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chuck Scianna.
