28 WHEREAS, Proud residents of the City of Brownsville are
39 gathering in Austin on January 29, 2025, to celebrate Brownsville
410 Day at the State Capitol; and
511 WHEREAS, The southernmost city in Texas, Brownsville has
6- played an important role in the state's storied history; during
7- the Mexican-American War, a military fort was constructed at the
8- site, and soon after, it was named Fort Brown in honor of Major
9- Jacob Brown, who died during an attack on the stronghold; the
10- area became part of the state of Texas with the signing of the
11- Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, and five years later, it was
12- officially incorporated as Brownsville; the city also served as a
13- hub for trade with Mexico during the Civil War, and in the
14- following decades, its economy benefited from the cattle and
15- transportation industries; and

22- sustainable growth, economic development, and enhancing the
23- quality of life for its residents; and
24+ population of approximately 185,000; the city serves as the county
25+ seat of Cameron County, and it has built a reputation as a leader in
26+ innovation, space exploration, and cross-border trade; the city has
27+ also demonstrated a steadfast commitment to sustainable growth,
28+ economic development, and enhancing the quality of life for its
29+ residents; and
2430 WHEREAS, Brownsville has fostered a vibrant culture that
2531 reflects the enduring partnership between the United States and
26- Mexico; the city hosts a number of festivals and events to
27- celebrate its Mexican American heritage and traditions, and it
28- works to strengthen the bonds of unity, friendship, and shared
29- purpose between residents on both sides of the Rio Grande; and
30- WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to
31- build an even brighter future, the citizens of Brownsville are
32+ Mexico; the city hosts a number of festivals and events to celebrate
33+ its Mexican American heritage and traditions, and it works to
34+ strengthen the bonds of unity, friendship, and shared purpose
35+ between residents on both sides of the Rio Grande; and
36+ WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build
37+ an even brighter future, the citizens of Brownsville are
3238 justifiably proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to
3339 honor their contributions to the progress and prosperity of the
3440 Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
35- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
36- Legislature, hereby recognize January 29, 2025, as Brownsville
37- Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
38- delegation.
