2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize Audubon Texas Day at the State Capitol on February 19,
4	10		2025; and
5	11		WHEREAS, Audubon Texas, the state office of the National
6	12		Audubon Society, is dedicated to the conservation of birds,
7	13		wildlife, and their habitats across the Lone Star State and has
8	14		worked tirelessly to protect and restore vital ecosystems for
9	15		more than a century; and
10	16		WHEREAS, Audubon Texas leads innovative conservation
11	17		efforts across the state, including managing a coastal island
12	18		leasing program that safeguards 177 islands along the Texas
13	19		coast; the organization operates four nature centers located in
14	20		Dallas, Cedar Hill, San Antonio, and Brownsville and promotes
15	21		conservation initiatives that benefit grasslands, wetlands, and
16	22		urban environments; and
17	23		WHEREAS, Home to more than 579 bird species, Texas is one
18	24		of the most ecologically significant states for avian
19	25		biodiversity, and Audubon Texas' efforts not only protect these
20	26		species but also bolster the state's economy through ecotourism,
21	27		birdwatching, and outdoor recreation and generate hundreds of
22	28		millions of dollars annually; and
23	29		WHEREAS, The National Audubon Society is celebrating its
24	30		120th anniversary, which marks more than a century of leadership
25	31		in bird and habitat conservation across the United States and
26	32		reaffirms the society's commitment to bipartisan collaboration
27	33		in crafting policies that support environmental stewardship; and
28	34		WHEREAS, The mission of Audubon Texas and the National
29	35		Audubon Society aligns with the principle that sound
30	36		conservation policies at both the state and federal levels are
31	37		crucial to ensuring the protection of birds, wildlife, and
32	38		natural resources for future generations; and
33	39		WHEREAS, The work of Audubon Texas exemplifies the
34	40		interconnectedness of conservation efforts and demonstrates that
35	41		the protection of local habitats directly contributes to
36	42		national and global environmental resilience; and
37	43		WHEREAS, Audubon Texas Day at the State Capitol serves as
38	44		an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the organization's
39	45		invaluable contributions to conservation and its ongoing efforts
40	46		to ensure a thriving natural environment for both birds and
41	47		people in Texas; now, therefore, be it
42	48		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
43	49		Legislature, hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Audubon
44	50		Texas Day at the State Capitol and honor the 120th anniversary of
45	51		the National Audubon Society; and, be it further
46	52		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
47	53		honor of this special occasion.
