7+ SENATE RESOLUTION
28 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
39 recognize Audubon Texas Day at the State Capitol on February 19,
410 2025; and
511 WHEREAS, Audubon Texas, the state office of the National
612 Audubon Society, is dedicated to the conservation of birds,
713 wildlife, and their habitats across the Lone Star State and has
814 worked tirelessly to protect and restore vital ecosystems for
915 more than a century; and
1016 WHEREAS, Audubon Texas leads innovative conservation
1117 efforts across the state, including managing a coastal island
1218 leasing program that safeguards 177 islands along the Texas
1319 coast; the organization operates four nature centers located in
1420 Dallas, Cedar Hill, San Antonio, and Brownsville and promotes
1521 conservation initiatives that benefit grasslands, wetlands, and
1622 urban environments; and
1723 WHEREAS, Home to more than 579 bird species, Texas is one
1824 of the most ecologically significant states for avian
1925 biodiversity, and Audubon Texas' efforts not only protect these
2026 species but also bolster the state's economy through ecotourism,
2127 birdwatching, and outdoor recreation and generate hundreds of
2228 millions of dollars annually; and
2329 WHEREAS, The National Audubon Society is celebrating its
2430 120th anniversary, which marks more than a century of leadership
2531 in bird and habitat conservation across the United States and
2632 reaffirms the society's commitment to bipartisan collaboration
2733 in crafting policies that support environmental stewardship; and
2834 WHEREAS, The mission of Audubon Texas and the National
2935 Audubon Society aligns with the principle that sound
3036 conservation policies at both the state and federal levels are
3137 crucial to ensuring the protection of birds, wildlife, and
3238 natural resources for future generations; and
3339 WHEREAS, The work of Audubon Texas exemplifies the
3440 interconnectedness of conservation efforts and demonstrates that
3541 the protection of local habitats directly contributes to
3642 national and global environmental resilience; and
3743 WHEREAS, Audubon Texas Day at the State Capitol serves as
3844 an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the organization's
3945 invaluable contributions to conservation and its ongoing efforts
4046 to ensure a thriving natural environment for both birds and
4147 people in Texas; now, therefore, be it
4248 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
4349 Legislature, hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Audubon
4450 Texas Day at the State Capitol and honor the 120th anniversary of
4551 the National Audubon Society; and, be it further
4652 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
4753 honor of this special occasion.
