2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize the Heritage Center of Cherokee County Museum in
4	10		celebrating the dedication of a sculpture of Governor Jim Hogg on
5	11		March 23, 2025; and
6	12		WHEREAS, This remarkable sculpture, located at the
7	13		Heritage Center of Cherokee County Museum in Rusk, serves to
8	14		celebrate and preserve the legacy of James Stephen "Jim" Hogg,
9	15		who was born in Rusk on March 24, 1851, and was the first
10	16		native-born Texan to serve as governor of Texas; and
11	17		WHEREAS, The inspiration for the sculpture arose from
12	18		Governor Hogg's final speech, in which he declared public office
13	19		to be an earned distinction and unwavering morality in government
14	20		as the strongest defense against political corruption; and
15	21		WHEREAS, Design and fundraising efforts for the sculpture
16	22		began in March of 2024, and through the generous contributions of
17	23		Rusk's pioneer families and other community supporters, the
18	24		sculpture and three cast iron plaques commemorating Governor
19	25		Hogg and the sculpture's sponsors were officially unveiled in
20	26		January of 2025; and
21	27		WHEREAS, The Heritage Center of Cherokee County Museum's
22	28		board of directors, including president Betty MarContell and
23	29		members Stephanie Caveness, Jim Cromwell, Rachel Loden, and
24	30		Kevin Gentry, were instrumental in the success of this project
25	31		and of the museum, and it is indeed fitting that the board and the
26	32		museum's docents and donors be recognized for their dedication to
27	33		sharing the storied history of Cherokee County; now, therefore,
28	34		be it
29	35		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby
30	36		commend the Heritage Center of Cherokee County Museum and all
31	37		associated with the museum for their many contributions to
32	38		preserving Texas history and extend to them best wishes for a
33	39		successful dedication ceremony; and, be it further
34	40		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
35	41		honor of this special occasion.
