5- WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with
6- the passing of Kenneth William Threlkeld of Tyler on May 23,
7- 2024, at the age of 88; and
8- WHEREAS, Ken Threlkeld was born in Ladonia on July 4, 1935,
9- to Louise and Quincy Threlkeld; he grew up with a sister, Sue, in
10- Muddig, where he walked across his father's cotton and cattle
11- farm to attend school with 15 classmates; after serving in the
12- U.S. Army, he earned a bachelor's degree in business at East
13- Texas State College under the GI Bill; he later was honored as a
14- distinguished alumnus of the school, which today is known as East
15- Texas A&M University; and

8+ WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
9+ passing of Kenneth William Threlkeld of Tyler on May 23, 2024, at
10+ the age of 88; and
11+ WHEREAS, Ken Threlkeld was born in Ladonia on July 4, 1935, to
12+ Louise and Quincy Threlkeld; he grew up with a sister, Sue, in
13+ Muddig, where he walked across his father's cotton and cattle farm
14+ to attend school with 15 classmates; after serving in the U.S. Army,
15+ he earned a bachelor's degree in business at East Texas State
16+ College under the GI Bill; he later was honored as a distinguished
17+ alumnus of the school, which today is known as East Texas A&M
18+ University; and
1619 WHEREAS, In the early 1960s, Mr. Threlkeld worked as an
1720 accountant for the Ideal Baking Company in Tyler and as an
18- accountant and auditor with Squyres, Johnson, Squyres; he began
19- his insurance career with State Farm in 1964; the following year,
20- he joined the Clyde-Prestidge Insurance Agency, and he
21- eventually became its owner; in 1982, he established Threlkeld &
22- Company Insurance, which today is owned by his son; he was a
23- respected leader who mentored many young professionals, and in
24- 2006, he was the inaugural recipient of the Paige Eiland
25- Political Action Award in recognition of his impactful efforts in
26- behalf of independent insurance agents; and

2831 Mr. Threlkeld held leadership roles with a number of area
29- organizations, and he was honored with the Breath of Life Award
30- from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Build East Texas
31- Award of Excellence; actively involved in cattle ranching and
32- farming, he lent his support to the Texas Agricultural Lifetime
33- Leadership program, and he garnered the Bill and Mary Clements
34- Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership in Agriculture; and
35- WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Threlkeld cherished time spent
36- with his loved ones, and he took great pride in his three
37- children, Lori, Mandy, and Todd, and his six grandchildren; and
32+ organizations, and he was honored with the Breath of Life Award from
33+ the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Build East Texas Award of

3841 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
39- community, Ken Threlkeld earned the lasting respect and
40- admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now,
41- therefore, be it
42- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
43- Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Kenneth William
44- Threlkeld and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
45- family: to his children, Lori Knight and her husband, Scott,
46- Mandy Lohner and her husband, Mike, and Todd Threlkeld; to his
47- grandchildren, Brandon Threlkeld, Grace, Ken, and Will Knight,
48- and Michael and Maggie Lohner; to the mother of his children,
49- Cheryl Threlkeld; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
50- it further
42+ community, Ken Threlkeld earned the lasting respect and admiration
43+ of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
44+ RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
45+ hereby pay tribute to the life of Kenneth William Threlkeld and
46+ extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his
47+ children, Lori Knight and her husband, Scott, Mandy Lohner and her
48+ husband, Mike, and Todd Threlkeld; to his grandchildren, Brandon
49+ Threlkeld, Grace, Ken, and Will Knight, and Michael and Maggie
50+ Lohner; to the mother of his children, Cheryl Threlkeld; and to his
51+ other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5152 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
52- prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
53- this day, it do so in memory of Ken Threlkeld.
