SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 282 In Memory of Kenneth Threlkeld WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Kenneth William Threlkeld of Tyler on May 23, 2024, at the age of 88; and WHEREAS, Ken Threlkeld was born in Ladonia on July 4, 1935, to Louise and Quincy Threlkeld; he grew up with a sister, Sue, in Muddig, where he walked across his father's cotton and cattle farm to attend school with 15 classmates; after serving in the U.S. Army, he earned a bachelor's degree in business at East Texas State College under the GI Bill; he later was honored as a distinguished alumnus of the school, which today is known as East Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, In the early 1960s, Mr. Threlkeld worked as an accountant for the Ideal Baking Company in Tyler and as an accountant and auditor with Squyres, Johnson, Squyres; he began his insurance career with State Farm in 1964; the following year, he joined the Clyde-Prestidge Insurance Agency, and he eventually became its owner; in 1982, he established Threlkeld & Company Insurance, which today is owned by his son; he was a respected leader who mentored many young professionals, and in 2006, he was the inaugural recipient of the Paige Eiland Political Action Award in recognition of his impactful efforts in behalf of independent insurance agents; and WHEREAS, Committed to giving back to his community, Mr. Threlkeld held leadership roles with a number of area organizations, and he was honored with the Breath of Life Award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Build East Texas Award of Excellence; actively involved in cattle ranching and farming, he lent his support to the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership program, and he garnered the Bill and Mary Clements Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership in Agriculture; and WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Threlkeld cherished time spent with his loved ones, and he took great pride in his three children, Lori, Mandy, and Todd, and his six grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his community, Ken Threlkeld earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Kenneth William Threlkeld and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his children, Lori Knight and her husband, Scott, Mandy Lohner and her husband, Mike, and Todd Threlkeld; to his grandchildren, Brandon Threlkeld, Grace, Ken, and Will Knight, and Michael and Maggie Lohner; to the mother of his children, Cheryl Threlkeld; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ken Threlkeld.
