SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 340
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Alicia Canales Gonzalez on the grand occasion of her
100th birthday, a remarkable milestone that reflects a lifetime
of love, service, and cherished memories; and
WHEREAS, Born March 26, 1925, in Hebbronville, Alicia was
the ninth of 11 children of Santos and Amalia Ramos Canales; in
1949, she married the love of her life, Jose G. "Joe" Gonzalez,
with whom she shared a deep and enduring partnership; they were
blessed with two daughters, Irma Alicia Salinas and Linda Jo
Soliz, and she cherishes her role in her growing legacy of four
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS, A woman of strength and resilience, Alicia
stepped forward to serve as Jim Hogg County treasurer after her
husband's passing; her commitment to her community extends
beyond her time in public service, as she has been a lifelong
member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Parish and an
active participant in many church organizations, including the
Mother's Club, the Guadalupanas, the Franciscanas, and the
Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez groups; and
WHEREAS, Alicia has always brought joy to those around her
through her warmth and engaging personality, her quick wit, and
her love of tradition, which she embodied as a member of the
Folclórico Dance Group at the Jim Hogg County Elderly Nutrition
Center; her kindness and sense of humor have made her a widely
beloved figure among her loved ones and in the Hebbronville
community; and
WHEREAS, On March 29, 2025, family and friends will gather
to celebrate this extraordinary woman and the century of wisdom,
laughter, and love she has shared with her many loved ones; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
Legislature, hereby honor Alicia Canales Gonzalez on the occasion
of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued happiness and treasured moments; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as a token of high esteem from the Texas Senate.
