| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mark Garcia has served the Texas Legislature as |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Senate auditor for 25 years; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia is a graduate of Concordia University |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Texas, where he played baseball as a left-handed pitcher and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | designated hitter; during his collegiate baseball career, he set 2 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school records and hit more than 20 home runs, all while earning his |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | bachelor's degree in accounting; he began his professional career |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with the State Auditor's Office, where he conducted financial and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | performance reviews of agencies, schools, and universities; after |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | six years, he accepted a position with the Texas Comptroller of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Public Accounts; his responsibilities included teaching others the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | state accounting system and assisting with the Comprehensive Annual |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Financial Report during busy seasons; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In January 2000, Mr. Garcia was hired as Senate |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | auditor; he has demonstrated exceptional skill, diligence, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | dedication while budgeting for Senate offices; moreover, his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | kindness and sense of humor have brightened the days for his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | colleagues and have brought him many friendships in the Capitol |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | community; since 2004, he has played in the Senate Christmas band, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the Gaveltones, and in 2024, his daughter, Brianna, shared the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | stage at the holiday party; he also helps make chili to fund this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | annual event; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia has further benefited his fellow citizens |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | by participating numerous times in the Texas MS 150 bicycle |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, riding with |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the General Land Office's team; in all his endeavors, he is |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | supported by the love and encouragement of his wife, Marlina, and he |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | takes great pride in his two children, Brianna and Alex, and his two |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | stepchildren, Aidan and William; and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Through his professionalism, expertise, and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | commitment to excellence, Mark Garcia has made significant |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | contributions to the Texas Senate, and he is truly deserving of |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | hereby honor Mark Garcia for his 25 years of service as Texas Senate |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | auditor and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, |

| 44 | 44 | | be it further |
