77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Mark Garcia has served the Texas Legislature as
99 Senate auditor for 25 years; and
1010 WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia is a graduate of Concordia University
1111 Texas, where he played baseball as a left-handed pitcher and
1212 designated hitter; during his collegiate baseball career, he set 2
1313 school records and hit more than 20 home runs, all while earning his
1414 bachelor's degree in accounting; he began his professional career
1515 with the State Auditor's Office, where he conducted financial and
1616 performance reviews of agencies, schools, and universities; after
1717 six years, he accepted a position with the Texas Comptroller of
1818 Public Accounts; his responsibilities included teaching others the
1919 state accounting system and assisting with the Comprehensive Annual
2020 Financial Report during busy seasons; and
2121 WHEREAS, In January 2000, Mr. Garcia was hired as Senate
2222 auditor; he has demonstrated exceptional skill, diligence, and
2323 dedication while budgeting for Senate offices; moreover, his
2424 kindness and sense of humor have brightened the days for his
2525 colleagues and have brought him many friendships in the Capitol
2626 community; since 2004, he has played in the Senate Christmas band,
2727 the Gaveltones, and in 2024, his daughter, Brianna, shared the
2828 stage at the holiday party; he also helps make chili to fund this
2929 annual event; and
3030 WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia has further benefited his fellow citizens
3131 by participating numerous times in the Texas MS 150 bicycle
3232 fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, riding with
3333 the General Land Office's team; in all his endeavors, he is
3434 supported by the love and encouragement of his wife, Marlina, and he
3535 takes great pride in his two children, Brianna and Alex, and his two
3636 stepchildren, Aidan and William; and
3737 WHEREAS, Through his professionalism, expertise, and
3838 commitment to excellence, Mark Garcia has made significant
3939 contributions to the Texas Senate, and he is truly deserving of
4040 special recognition; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
4242 hereby honor Mark Garcia for his 25 years of service as Texas Senate
4343 auditor and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and,
4444 be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4747 Senate.
