SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93 WHEREAS, Ann Manning of Lubbock is being presented with a Distinguished Alumni Award by the Texas Tech University School of Law at its annual gala on March 1, 2025; and WHEREAS, A member of the School of Law's Class of 1984, Ms. Manning completed her bachelor's degree at Texas Tech as well; she is the managing shareholder of Underwood Law's Lubbock office and the only attorney in the city who is certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; and WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, Ms. Manning has represented the Lubbock Independent School District; she works closely with a number of school districts on such matters as employment contracts, wage disputes, discipline, student privacy, and open government law; widely known for her expertise, she has presented at annual seminars for districts on pressing legal topics, and she is a Texas Education Association Certified Provider of Continuing Education for both school boards and educators; and WHEREAS, Ms. Manning represents many other longtime clients, including employers, universities, churches, and financial institutions; her work has often been cited, forming a valuable contribution to case law; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession, Ms. Manning has held a number of leadership roles, including board member for the State Bar of Texas School Law Section and chair of the Texas Council of School Attorneys; her accomplishments have earned her recognition for many consecutive years by "Texas Super Lawyers" and "Best Lawyers in America"; moreover, she was named a top attorney in employment law by Texas Monthly, and in 2016 the Lubbock YWCA selected her as a Women of Excellence honoree; and WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Ann Manning has upheld the highest standards of her profession, and she is truly deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, hereby congratulate Ann Manning on receiving a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Texas Tech University School of Law and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Ms. Manning as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
