1818 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
1919 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
2020 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Patrick Underwood 4
2121 Federal Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2023’’. 5
2222 SEC. 2. ASSAULTING, RESISTING, OR IMPEDING CERTAIN 6
2323 OFFICERS OR EMPLOYEES. 7
2424 Section 111 of title 18, United States Code, is 8

2929 ‘‘§ 111. Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain offi-1

3131 ‘‘(a) I
3232 NGENERAL.—Whoever knowingly— 3
3333 ‘‘(1) forcibly assaults, resists, opposes, impedes, 4
3434 intimidates, or interferes while performing official 5
3535 duties, 6
3636 ‘‘(2) makes physical contact with or has the in-7
3737 tent to commit another felony while acting under 8
3838 paragraph (1), or 9
3939 ‘‘(3) uses a deadly or dangerous weapon against 10
4040 (including a weapon intended to cause death or dan-11
4141 ger but that fails to do so by reason of a defective 12
4242 component) or inflicts bodily injury while acting 13
4343 under paragraph (1), 14
4444 any officer or employee of the United States or of any 15
4545 agency in any branch of the United States Government 16
4646 (including any member of the uniformed services) while 17
4747 engaged in or on account of the performance of official 18
4848 duties, or any person who formerly served as a person de-19
4949 fined above on account of the performance of official du-20
5050 ties during such person’s term of service shall be punished 21
5151 as provided in subsection (b). 22
5252 ‘‘(b) P
5353 UNISHMENT.—A violation of subsection (a) 23
5454 shall be punished as follows: 24
5555 ‘‘(1) For a violation of paragraph (1) of such 25
5656 subsection, by a fine under this title of not less than 26
