the health profession opportunity grant program under
section 2008 of the Social Security Act, and for other
purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Tribal Healthcare Ca-4
reers Act’’. 5
SEC. 2. SET-ASIDE OF FUNDS FOR INDIAN POPULATIONS. 6
Section 2008(c)(1) of the Social Security Act (42 7
U.S.C. 1397g(c)(1)) is amended by inserting ‘‘15 percent 8

of which for each fiscal year shall be reserved for grants 1
to Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and Tribal Colleges 2
and Universities’’ before the period. 3
SEC. 3. GUARANTEE OF GRANTS FOR INDIAN POPU-4
LATIONS. 5
Section 2008(a)(2)(C) of the Social Security Act (42 6
U.S.C. 1397(a)(2)(C)) is amended to read as follows: 7
‘‘(C) G
UARANTEE OF GRANTS FOR INDIAN 8
POPULATIONS.—The Secretary shall award at 9
least 10 grants under this subsection to an eli-10
gible entity that is an Indian tribe, a tribal or-11
ganization, or a Tribal College or University, to 12
the extent there are a sufficient number of ap-13
plications submitted by such an eligible entity 14
that meet the requirements of subparagraph 15
(B).’’. 16
SEC. 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. 17
The amendments made by this Act shall take effect 18
on October 1, 2023. 19
