3636 EFINITIONS.—Section 921(a) of title 18, United 4
3737 States Code, is amended— 5
3838 (1) by inserting after paragraph (30) the fol-6
3939 lowing: 7
4040 ‘‘(31) The term ‘semiautomatic pistol’ means any re-8
4141 peating pistol that— 9
4242 ‘‘(A) utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing 10
4343 cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and 11
4444 chamber the next round; and 12
4545 ‘‘(B) requires a separate pull of the trigger to 13
4646 fire each cartridge.’’; and 14
4747 (2) by adding at the end the following: 15
4848 ‘‘(38) The term ‘semiautomatic shotgun’ means any 16
4949 repeating shotgun that— 17
5050 ‘‘(A) utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing 18
5151 cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and 19
5252 chamber the next round; and 20
5353 ‘‘(B) requires a separate pull of the trigger to 21
5454 fire each cartridge. 22
5555 ‘‘(39) The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon’ 23
5656 means any of the following, regardless of country of manu-24
5757 facture or caliber of ammunition accepted: 25

8181 signed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of 21
8282 a semiautomatic rifle but not convert the semiauto-22

370370 ‘‘(41) The term ‘barrel shroud’— 6
371371 ‘‘(A) means a shroud that is attached to, or 7
372372 partially or completely encircles, the barrel of a fire-8
373373 arm so that the shroud protects the user of the fire-9
374374 arm from heat generated by the barrel; and 10
375375 ‘‘(B) does not include— 11
376376 ‘‘(i) a slide that partially or completely en-12
377377 closes the barrel; or 13
378378 ‘‘(ii) an extension of the stock along the 14
379379 bottom of the barrel which does not encircle or 15
380380 substantially encircle the barrel. 16
381381 ‘‘(42) The term ‘detachable ammunition feeding de-17
382382 vice’ means an ammunition feeding device that can be re-18
383383 moved from a firearm without disassembly of the firearm 19
384384 action. 20
385385 ‘‘(43) The term ‘fixed ammunition feeding device’ 21
386386 means an ammunition feeding device that is permanently 22
387387 fixed to the firearm in such a manner that it cannot be 23
388388 removed without disassembly of the firearm. 24

392392 ‘‘(44) The term ‘folding, telescoping, or detachable 1
393393 stock’ means a stock that folds, telescopes, detaches or 2
394394 otherwise operates to reduce the length, size, or any other 3
395395 dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability, of a 4
396396 firearm. 5
397397 ‘‘(45) The term ‘forward grip’ means a grip located 6
398398 forward of the trigger that functions as a pistol grip. 7
399399 ‘‘(46) The term ‘grenade launcher’ means an attach-8
400400 ment for use on a firearm that is designed to propel a 9
401401 grenade or other similar destructive device. 10
