2121 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Resident Education 4
2222 Deferred Interest Act’’ or the ‘‘REDI Act’’. 5

2828 Section 455(f) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 3
2929 (20 U.S.C. 1087e(f)) is amended— 4
3030 (1) in paragraph (1), in the matter preceding 5
3131 subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘A borrower’’ and in-6
3232 serting ‘‘Except as provided in paragraph (7), a bor-7
3333 rower’’; 8
3434 (2) in paragraph (2)(A)— 9
3535 (A) in clause (i), by striking ‘‘or’’ after the 10
3636 semicolon; 11
3737 (B) by striking the matter following clause 12
3838 (ii); 13
3939 (C) in clause (ii), by striking the comma at 14
4040 the end and inserting ‘‘; or’’; and 15
4141 (D) by adding at the end the following: 16
4242 ‘‘(iii) is serving in a medical or dental 17
4343 internship or residency program;’’; and 18
4444 (3) by adding at the end the following: 19

4646 PECIAL RULE FOR CERTAIN IN SCHOOL 20
4747 DEFERMENT.—Notwithstanding any other provision 21
4848 of this Act, a borrower described in paragraph 22
4949 (2)(A)(iii) shall be eligible for a deferment, during 23
