16 | 16 | | Whereas, on April 27, 1822, Ulysses S. Grant was born in |

17 | 17 | | Point Pleasant, Ohio, and lived in Georgetown, Ohio, |

18 | 18 | | throughout his childhood until 1839, when he left to at- |

19 | 19 | | tend the United States Military Academy at West Point; |
---|
20 | 20 | | Whereas, after Grant graduated from West Point, he joined |
---|
21 | 21 | | the 4th Regiment, US Infantry, where he served with dis- |

22 | 22 | | tinction in the Mexican-American War; |

23 | 23 | | Whereas, over the course of the American Civil War, Grant |
