16	16	Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of
17	17	the Auschwitz extermination camp in Nazi-occupied Po-
18	18	land and International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
19	19	Whereas United Nations General Assembly Resolution 60/7
20	20	(2005) designated January 27 of each year as an Inter-
21	21	national Day of Commemoration in memory of victims of
22	22	the Holocaust;
23	23	Whereas, during World War II, the Nazi regime and its col-
24	24	laborators systematically murdered 6,000,000 Jews and
25	25	millions of other individuals;
26	26	Whereas the Auschwitz extermination camp complex in Nazi-
27	27	occupied Poland, which included a killing center at

31	31	Birkenau, was the largest death camp complex estab-
32	32	lished by the Nazi regime;
33	33	Whereas, on January 27, 1945, the Auschwitz extermination
34	34	camp was liberated by Allied Forces, after almost 5 years
35	35	of murder, rape, and torture at the camp;
36	36	Whereas nearly 1,300,000 innocent civilians were deported to
37	37	Auschwitz from their homes across Eastern and Western
38	38	Europe, particularly from Hungary, Poland, and France;
39	39	Whereas nearly 1,100,000 innocent civilians were murdered
40	40	at the Auschwitz extermination camp between 1940 and
41	41	1945;
42	42	Whereas at least 960,000 of the nearly 1,100,000 murdered
43	43	people were Jewish;
44	44	Whereas the more than 100,000 other victims who perished
45	45	at Auschwitz included non-Jewish Poles, Romani people,
46	46	Soviet civilians and prisoners of war, Afro-Germans, Je-
47	47	hovah’s Witnesses, people with disabilities, gay men and
48	48	women, and other ethnic minorities;
49	49	Whereas these innocent civilians were subjected to torture,
50	50	forced labor, starvation, rape, medical experiments, and
51	51	separation from loved ones;
52	52	Whereas the names of many of these innocent individuals
53	53	who perished have been lost forever;
54	54	Whereas the Auschwitz extermination camp symbolizes the
55	55	extraordinary brutality of the Holocaust;
56	56	Whereas the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
57	57	serves as our Nation’s memorial to the victims of the
58	58	Holocaust and teaches the history and lessons of the Hol-
59	59	ocaust to individuals from all walks of life in the United
60	60	States;

64	64	Whereas the people of the United States must never forget
65	65	the genocide and terrible crimes against humanity com-
66	66	mitted at the Auschwitz extermination camp;
67	67	Whereas the people of the United States must educate future
68	68	generations to promote understanding of the dangers of
69	69	intolerance in order to prevent similar injustices, includ-
70	70	ing acts of violent anti-Semitism, from happening again;
71	71	Whereas there are only approximately 220,000 Holocaust
72	72	survivors who are still living and it is more important
73	73	now than ever to share their collective histories and sto-
74	74	ries;
75	75	Whereas, in recent years, there has been an increase in the
76	76	number and intensity of anti-Semitic incidents in the
77	77	United States and around the world;
78	78	Whereas, since the October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attack
79	79	in Israel, there have been more than 10,000 anti-Semitic
80	80	incidents in the United States;
81	81	Whereas hate crime statistics collected by the Federal Bureau
82	82	of Investigation demonstrate a 63-percent increase in
83	83	anti-Semitic incidents in the United States from 2022 to
84	84	2023;
85	85	Whereas, in 2018, the United States experienced the single
86	86	deadliest attack against the Jewish community in the his-
87	87	tory of the United States with the murder of 11 individ-
88	88	uals at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Penn-
89	89	sylvania; and
90	90	Whereas, especially in a period of rising anti-Semitism, com-
91	91	memoration of the liberation of the Auschwitz extermi-
92	92	nation camp will instill in all people of the United States
93	93	a greater awareness of the Holocaust and knowledge of
94	94	the horrors brought upon by the systematic murder of

99	99	by the Nazi regime: Now, therefore, be it
100	100	Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
101	101	(1) calls on all people of the United States to 2
102	102	remember the 1,100,000 innocent victims murdered 3
103	103	at the Auschwitz extermination camp as part of the 4
104	104	Holocaust, the 6,000,000 Jews killed during the 5
105	105	Holocaust, and all of the victims of the Nazi reign 6
106	106	of terror; 7
107	107	(2) honors the legacy of the survivors of the 8
108	108	Holocaust and of the Auschwitz extermination camp; 9
109	109	(3) calls on the people of the United States to 10
110	110	continue to work toward tolerance, peace, and jus-11
111	111	tice and to continue to work to end all genocide and 12
112	112	persecution; and 13
113	113	(4) recommits to combating all forms of anti- 14
114	114	Semitism. 15
