To prohibit Federal funding for National Public Radio, and 
for other purposes. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Defund NPR Act’’. 4
SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON FEDERAL FUNDING FOR NA-5
TIONAL PUBLIC RADIO. 6
(a) I
NGENERAL.—Section 396 of the Communica-7
tions Act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 396) is amended by adding 8
at the end the following: 9

‘‘(m) PROHIBITION ONFEDERALFUNDING FORNA-1
TIONALPUBLICRADIO.— 2
‘‘(1) I
N GENERAL.—After the date of enact-3
ment of the Defund NPR Act, no Federal funds 4
may, directly or indirectly, be made available to or 5
used to support an organization described in para-6
graph (2), including through the payment of dues to 7
or the purchase of programming from the organiza-8
tion by a public broadcast station using Federal 9
funds received by the station. 10
‘‘(2) O
RGANIZATIONS DESCRIBED .—The organi-11
zations described in this paragraph are— 12
‘‘(A) the organization known, as of the 13
date of enactment of the Defund NPR Act, as 14
‘National Public Radio’; and 15
‘‘(B) any successor organization to the or-16
ganization described in subparagraph (A).’’. 17
(b) T
ECHNICAL ANDCONFORMINGAMENDMENTS.— 18
Title III of the Communications Act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 19
301 et seq.) is amended— 20
(1) in section 396(k) (47 U.S.C. 396(k))— 21
(A) in paragraph (4), in the first sentence, 22
by striking ‘‘or National Public Radio’’; and 23

(B) in paragraph (9), by striking ‘‘or Na-1
tional Public Radio’’ each place that term ap-2
pears; and 3
(2) in section 398(b)(1) (47 U.S.C. 398(b)(1)), 4
by striking ‘‘and National Public Radio’’. 5
