4241 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

4443 WHEREAS, counties in Utah contract with the Department of Corrections to provide

4645 prison bed space for state prisoners;

4847 WHEREAS, this contracting arrangement has proved beneficial to both the state and the

5049 counties by saving taxpayers from the burden of building new state correctional facilities

5251 while, at the same time, assisting counties to meet their own correctional space needs;

5453 WHEREAS, in accordance with Utah Code Subsection 64-13e-103(6), the Department of

5655 Corrections may not enter into a contract with a county to house state inmates unless the

7473 WHEREAS, Iron County will have sufficient facilities and beds to accommodate additional
