1725 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1927 1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-206.4 as follows:

21- 22.1-206.4. Catalog of print or digital materials available in school libraries; development, implementation, and maintenance.

23-A. As used in this section, "print or digital material" includes any book, graphic novel, pamphlet, magazine, newspaper, periodical, or other written material or document that is available in a print or digital format. "Print or digital material" includes any such material that is composed of or includes drawings, paintings, photographs, or other visual depictions.

25-B. The principal of each public elementary or secondary school or his designee shall develop, implement, and maintain in an electronic spreadsheet or substantially similar electronic format a catalog of all print or digital materials available in the school library. Such catalog shall:
33+"Instructional material" means any print or digital material that is provided to a student or otherwise used in the classroom as a part of the school curriculum, including the curriculum of any course or program of instruction provided or offered to students enrolled in such school. "Instructional material" does not include academic tests or assessments or audiovisual materials.

35+"Print or digital material" includes any book, graphic novel, pamphlet, magazine, newspaper, periodical, or other written material or document that is available in a print or digital format. "Print or digital material" includes any such material that is composed of or includes drawings, paintings, photographs, or other visual depictions.

Such catalog shall:

2739 1. Be developed and posted in a publicly accessible location on the school website in a searchable and downloadable format;

2941 2. Identify each item by the item's title, author, and, if applicable, International Standard Book Number (ISBN), or such other identifying features or information as the principal or his designee deems appropriate; and

31-3. Be maintained and updated as necessary to accurately reflect all print or digital materials available in the school library.
