2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 499 Designating February 28, in 2025 and in each succeeding year, as Krabbe Disease Awareness Day in Virginia. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 3, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, February 18, 2025 WHEREAS, according to the National Institutes of Health, Krabbe Disease is a rare lysosomal storage disorder that occurs in at least one in every 250,000 live births; and WHEREAS, a diagnosis of infantile Krabbe Disease has a mortality rate as high as 90 percent in the first two years of life; and WHEREAS, the disease is usually fatal and has a multitude of complications that debilitate the patient, including deafness, vision loss, rigid posture, and cognitive deterioration; and WHEREAS, more research is needed to determine better treatment options for patients suffering from Krabbe Disease; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate February 28, in 2025 and in each succeeding year, as Krabbe Disease Awareness Day in Virginia; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates post the designation of this day on the General Assembly's website.
