2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 659 Commending Mekhi Becton, Sr. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 14, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, February 17, 2025 WHEREAS, Mekhi Becton, Sr., a native of Highland Springs in Henrico County, helped the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LIX in 2025; and WHEREAS, Mekhi Becton graduated from Highland Springs High School and was a three-star football prospect, ranked as one of the top high school offensive tackles in the country; he was recruited by 31 institutions and ultimately signed with the University of Louisville; and WHEREAS, after the first four games of his freshman season, Mekhi Becton was the highest-rated freshman in the country by Pro Football Focus, and after seven games, he was the best pass-blocker in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), allowing only six pressures in 312 snaps; and WHEREAS, Mekhi Becton was a starting tackle for the University of Louisville Cardinals during his sophomore and junior seasons; he earned All-ACC First Team honors and the Jacobs Blocking Trophy in 2019; and WHEREAS, Mekhi Becton was selected by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2020 National Football League Draft and played with the team from 2020 to 2023; and WHEREAS, in April 2024, Mekhi Becton signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles and shifted from tackle to guard; he excelled at the new position and quickly became the team's starting right guard; and WHEREAS, at Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, Mekhi Becton and the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, by a score of 4022 to claim the team's second Super Bowl victory; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mekhi Becton, Sr., on winning Super Bowl LIX as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mekhi Becton, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his athletic achievements.
