HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 459

Commending Tomahawk Creek Middle School.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2025

 

WHEREAS, in 2024, Tomahawk Creek Middle School in Chesterfield County was recognized by the Association for Middle Level Education as Chesterfield County's first ever School of Distinction; and

WHEREAS, the Schools of Distinction program recognizes exemplary schools and supports them through a process of strategic vision setting to help foster ongoing growth and success; Tomahawk Creek Middle School was one of only six Virginia schools and 17 schools across the country chosen to receive this high honor; and

WHEREAS, Tomahawk Creek Middle School opened in 2008 and was quickly recognized by the National Forum through the Schools to Watch program; and

WHEREAS, now under the leadership of Principal Rebecca Thompson, Tomahawk Creek Middle School is dedicated to providing a challenging academic environment that encourages students to achieve their fullest potential both in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Tomahawk Creek Middle School participates in several charitable and community improvement initiatives, including Toys for Tots, Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother, Feed 23112, and Tomahawk Gives Back; and

WHEREAS, with a focus on continuous improvement, Tomahawk Creek Middle School remains dedicated to enhancing its community and ensuring that every student feels included and valued; and

WHEREAS, Tomahawk Creek Middle School is a shining example of equity in action, where every student's unique identity is not only respected but celebrated; and

WHEREAS, parents have applauded Tomahawk Creek Middle School's proactive measures to limit cell phone use, recognizing the importance of minimizing distractions and promoting focused engagement in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Tomahawk Creek Middle School has fostered a culture of kindness and respect that permeates every aspect of its community, emphasizing the importance of safety, both physical and emotional, and prioritizing measures to ensure the well-being of its students, faculty, and staff; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Tomahawk Creek Middle School hereby be commended on the occasion of its selection as a School of Distinction by Association for Middle Level Education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the faculty, administration, staff, and students of Tomahawk Creek Middle School as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school's commitment to excellence in service to young people in Chesterfield County.
