SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 301

Commending Karen Evans Schwartzkopf.

WHEREAS, Karen Evans Schwartzkopf, an accomplished writer, editor, and creator, retired in 2024 from her position as managing editor of Richmond Family Magazine, one of the Richmond area's leading family-lifestyle magazines; and

WHEREAS, Karen Evans Schwartzkopf holds a bachelor's degree in professional writing from Wheeling Jesuit College and previously worked as a public relations coordinator for the former Heilig-Meyers Company and as a managing editor of All About Kids Magazine; and

WHEREAS, Karen Evans Schwartzkopf and her husband, Scott Schwartzkopf, creative director and graphic designer, joined Richmond Family Magazine in August 2009, and two months later the magazine's first issue was published, establishing an exceptional resource for parents and families in the Greater Richmond area; and

WHEREAS, under Karen Evans Schwartzkopf's leadership, Richmond Family Magazine grew into a publication that is distributed at more than 850 locations throughout the Central Virginia region and that is enjoyed by more than 100,000 families; and

WHEREAS, following Karen Evans Schwartzkopf's editorial guidance, Richmond Family Magazine today incorporates a variety of topics of interest to parents and families, including information about health and wellness, community activities and events, travel, food and recipes, arts and crafts, and local history; and

WHEREAS, Karen Evans Schwartzkopf has generously mentored numerous amateur and aspiring writers over the past 15 years, giving many the confidence to find their voice and develop their craft; and

WHEREAS, through her unwavering commitment to editorial excellence, Karen Evans Schwartzkopf has cemented the reputation of Richmond Family Magazine and made a meaningful and lasting impact on the Richmond community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Karen Evans Schwartzkopf on the occasion of her retirement as managing editor of Richmond Family Magazine; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karen Evans Schwartzkopf as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her service and best wishes in her future endeavors.
