SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 318

Commending Keyshawn Davis.

 

 

Agreed to by the Senate, February 22, 2025

 

WHEREAS, Keyshawn Davis, a native of Norfolk and one of American boxing's brightest stars, claimed the World Boxing Organization lightweight title at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 14, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Keyshawn Davis dominated from the outset of the match against the previously unbeaten Denys Berinchyk and knocked out the former champion with a powerful left hook in the fourth round; and

WHEREAS, Keyshawn Davis's title-winning match moves his professional career record to 130, with nine knockouts and one no contest finish; and

WHEREAS, by achieving his title in his 14th professional match, Keyshawn Davis tied the boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya for the third-fewest fights needed to secure a lightweight championship; and

WHEREAS, prior to his World Boxing Organization title, Keyshawn Davis won silver medals at the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo, the 2019 Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur World Boxing Championships, and the XVIII Pan American Games; and

WHEREAS, Keyshawn Davis has proven himself one of the greatest in his sport and has brought great pride to Norfolk and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Keyshawn Davis hereby be commended for claiming the World Boxing Organization lightweight title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate of Virginia prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Keyshawn Davis as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his achievements and best wishes for his continued success.
