14 | 14 | | Under this bill, a school attendance officer must include in the notice provided |
---|
15 | 15 | | to the parent or guardian of a child who is habitually truant, which means the child |
---|
16 | 16 | | has been absent without an excuse for part or all of five or more days during a school |
---|
17 | 17 | | semester, that the parent or guardian may request an evaluation of whether the child |
---|
18 | 18 | | is a child with a disability or, for a child who has been identified as a child with a |
---|
19 | 19 | | disability and for whom an individualized education program has been prepared, a |
---|
20 | 20 | | review of the IEP and, if appropriate, revision of the child's IEP. Under current law, |
---|
21 | 21 | | a school attendance officer must provide a notice to the parent or guardian of a child |
---|
22 | 22 | | who is habitually truant that includes 1) a statement of the parent's or guardian's |
---|
23 | 23 | | responsibility to have the child to attend school regularly; 2) a statement that the |
---|
24 | 24 | | parent or guardian may request certain program or curriculum modifications and |
---|
25 | 25 | | that the child may be eligible for enrollment in a program for children at risk; 3) a |
---|
26 | 26 | | request that the parent or guardian meet with the school to discuss the child's |
---|
27 | 27 | | truancy; and 4) a statement of the penalties that may be imposed on the parent or |
---|
28 | 28 | | guardian if the parent or guardian fails to have the child to attend school regularly. |

29 | 29 | | The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do |

35 | 35 | | SECTION 1. 118.16 (2) (cg) 2m. of the statutes is created to read: |

36 | 36 | | 118.16 (2) (cg) 2m. A statement that the parent or guardian may request any |
---|
37 | 37 | | of the following: |

38 | 38 | | a. A referral under s. 115.777 for an evaluation of whether the child is a child |
---|
39 | 39 | | with a disability, as defined under s. 115.76 (5). |

40 | 40 | | b. A copy of the information described under s. 115.777 (3) (d). |

41 | 41 | | c. For a child who has been identified as a child with a disability, as defined |
