Referred to Committee on Education. ***AUTHORS SUBJECT TO CHANGE*** AN ACT to create 20.255 (2) (dw) of the statutes; relating to: funding a truancy reduction grant program and making an appropriation. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau This bill appropriates $2,000,000 to the Department of Public Instruction for truancy reduction grants in the 2024-25 school year. The bill specifies that if LRB-5489 is not enacted into law during the 2023 legislative session, the appropriation created in this bill is void. LRB-5489 requires DPI to establish and implement a grant program under which DPI must awards grants to eligible school districts for the purpose of reducing truancy. For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
